Choosing the right color

“It’s just paint”

A simple statement, yet a life altering change in your environment.

Follow the expert advice of testing the color in your home by first using different color samples and painting a small section of the wall.  My preferred method is using clear, paintable plastic sheets available at your major local hardware store. This way the paint is not directly applied to the wall, plus you can move the swatches to test them in different locations.

Depending on the luster of paint and the color, most of the time it is advisable to start with a coat of primer. Not only will this coat assure a more even look of the final color, it also will cover any blemishes created by possible repairs, e.g. nail holes, fillers, dents, resins. In addition, the neutral tone will help bring the color out, appearing more like the color you selected.

Of course, there is always the possibility that what you envisioned, and the outcome are two different things. To prevent disappointment of this nature, you can always download a paint app for your smart phone from major manufactures such as Behr, Sherwin Williams, Valspar to name a few. The app allows you to try out different color schemes and apply colors to pictures showing actual rooms in your home.
